Revivalist's Plan

Reenacting the Sayre Expedition
An unrepeated route, you say? We will be following not only in the footsteps of the 1962 Sayre expedition, but also in those of George Lowe and Sir Edmund Hillary, who pioneered this Everest approach 10 years earlier. We indeed hope to prove that Sayre's dream was possible, and his survival more than just luck. Join us as we reenact his expedition in the hope both of reliving his dream and possibly completing it. View the route here. This effort will provide a launch for all our other plans.

Four Against Everest into print
The Revival Team is in discussions with publishers to reprint Woody's original story, Four Against Everest, with only minor updates. We are drafting a new preface and addenda, based on the reflections of the three other expedition members. We feel the original story still stands well on its own, but the additional pages will add a broader perspective and a more complete history.

Putting Woody's Story in Perspective
A new book, Sayre, reflecting on the era in which Woody launched his many assaults on history will weave together elements of the history of mountaineering, the invasion of Tibet, the Cold War, and John F. Kennedy's abortive Two China policy.

Producing a film documentary and expedition adventure film
As a means to gain the most attention and publicity for Woody's accomplishments, a film documentary will take advantage of his own 16mm film collection to bring his life back to life. Weaving together interviews of friends and family with research in governmental archives, a full perspective on the accomplishments and notoriety of Woody will be possible.

In addition, the attempt to repeat his 1962 expedition, in all manner of detail still considered safe, will provide a storyline for a short adventure film. Shot in 1080i high definition, this film will seemlessly marry new footage with Sayre's 16mm film. View more details about this and other projects here.

Resources Still Needed

Dedicated Climbers
We continue to search for the best reenactment team to ensure we can tackle the Sayre route with a full complement in the spring of 2005. Consider joining us. View more details here.

Publishing Contacts
We are looking for print publishers of mountaineering books who are willing to help bring back this expedition story regarded as one of the top five Everest expedition accounts by Outside Magazine and one of the top 100 mountaineering stories of all time by Chessler Books. Publishers with film distribution interests and expertise are especially sought.

Film Distributors
Film production in the digital age has gotten more accessible, but distribution is the same hurdle it has always been. We hope to bring our films to festivals worldwide, and we are eager to capture as great a reach as possible, sharing this story with many we could not otherwise reach. We look to cable distribution on one of the many outdoor, adventure, or history networks as a way to give this story the greatest reach and help bring Sayre's book back into everyone's local library. We expect to be able to offer delivery in 1080i/30 high definition format.

Commercial Sponsors
Who wouldn't want to underwrite this inspirational adventure, and help to make Sayre's story and the reenactment a stunning success? Publishers, film distributors, and mountaineering equipment manufacturers and retailers are encouraged to contact us.

We plan to use this URL as "expedition central" during the seven week trek and climb. We plan to upload images and digital movie clips via satellite in order to update the world on our progress. We will also be editing our films in Final Cut Pro HD while on the mountain, taking advantage of the partnership and cutting edge equipment of Apple Computer and Sony electronics.

Please contact us if you or your company may be interested in joining our team.
